1913

In 1913 the mechanical engineering master Arnold Heinrich Meyer founded a “locksmithery and repair-shop with engine operation” in the Westerstraße 6 in Twistringen, Germany. There he produced straw-sewing machines, straw cutter, straw presses and shearing machines.

The development of the round-sewing-technique, that was used with the straw-sewing machine, was considered as an outstanding innovation of that time. These machines, for the production of so called “Malotten” (packaging material for bottles), were mainly sold in the local area, however even at that time they were exported worldwide. The biggest “Malotten-customer” was the beverage industry, e.g. the company Becks & Co. in Bremen.

1949

In summer 1949 the future son-in-law Hans Roess joined the company. In 1965 the new manufactory “Am Bahnhof 54” was built under his management.

In the late 50’s when plastic had his triumphal procession through the world of packing technology, and through the increased use of harvester-thresher in agriculture the classical long straw nearly disappeared. That was when the straw industry in Twistringen had to reorientate itself. At that time, the construction of new machines to recycle press-straw and other natural fibres (excelsior, jute, hay, flax, hemp, mineral wool) came to the fore.

1960

In the 60’s the company focused on the utility of straw in niche products, which were nevertheless successful (and partly are still today). Through innovations of for example straw wrapped drainage pipes, erosion control blankets, foil- and insulating mats, straw mattress, sight protection mats or packaging bandage, a new market opened up for the well-known resource.

Suitable machines were exported in numerous countries worldwide; the business developed in an excellent way and provided new job opportunities in Twistringen.

A.H. Meyer developed a large number of production techniques, mostly they were protected by patent; e.g. the fleece laying unit, stitching machine, fibre mixing unit or the drainage filter wrapping technique.

1969

In 1969 the company Twistringer RBM Dränfilter was founded by Hans Roess. This was an decisive step concerning the further successful development of the company group. From now on it was possible to manufacture something with the machines built by A.H. Meyer.

Initially these were mainly wrappings for drainage pipes, but shortly after that also erosion control blankets and base mats for roof greening.

1994

Since 1994 the company group is managed by the brothers Hans-Günther and Thomas Roess, this is already the third generation. They mainly focus on promoting the strategic development of the company group and the independent opening of markets worldwide with finished products and the suitable machines.

Today

In the meantime the Roess Nature Group employs over 150 employees, in different locations. Within the course of expansion, the companies Lanka Coco Products in Sri Lanka and IGG Internationale Geotextil GmbH were founded, the latter together with Reinhold Neisser ini 1997. For the area of subsurface irrigation a new company was founded by Thomas Roess and Dietmar Haub in 2007, the ECO Rain International GmbH & Co. KG.
